Recently, leading domestic VR manufacturer Pimax has unveiled two new VR headsets: the world's first VR headset with swappable optical panels, the Pimax Crystal Super, and the simplified, budget-friendly Pimax Crystal Light. Both have attracted widespread attention in the market with their unique advantages and exceptional cost performance.

Among them, the Crystal Super has become the focus with its ultra-high-end specifications and innovative design. Boasting 29.5 million pixels and the world's first swappable optical panels, it allows users to freely switch between QLED and Micro-OLED panels, with a starting price of 13,599 RMB. The Crystal Light, inheriting the essence of the Pimax Crystal, offers stunning image quality with 16.6 million pixels at a more affordable price, starting at just 5,599 RMB. Additionally, Pimax officially launched the 60G Airlink module, which gained significant acclaim at CES 2024 earlier this year.

Crystal Super: World's First·Swappable Optical Panels

As the world's first VR headset with swappable optical panels, the Pimax Crystal Super elevates the industry to a new height.

 Customizable VR Experience

In today's VR industry, QLED panels are widely used in high-end VR headsets due to their excellent color performance and technical maturity. However, with the launch of Apple Vision Pro, micro-OLED panels have gradually garnered more attention. The Crystal Super introduces new trends and possibilities to the VR industry, enabling users to flexibly switch between the rich colors of QLED and the extreme clarity of micro-OLED based on their needs, or even enjoy the combined advantages of both for a personalized, top-tier visual experience.

Furthermore, the Crystal Super is equipped with two distinct display panels and corresponding new glass lenses: the QLED panel is paired with a replaceable glass aspherical lens, while the micro-OLED panel utilizes the world's first Pancake glass lens independently developed by Pimax Technology.

The Crystal Super features a total of 29.5 million pixels, a significant upgrade from the 16.6 million pixels of its predecessor, the Crystal, and even outperforms Apple Vision Pro's 23 million pixels. This delivers an unprecedentedly wide field of view (FOV) and higher pixels per degree (PPD). Specifically, the QLED panel offers a per-eye resolution of 3840 x 3840 with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Micro-OLED panel provides a per-eye 4K resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

All configurations of the Crystal Super come with a built-in tracking system featuring four cameras, supporting functions such as eye tracking, automatic IPD adjustment, and dynamic foveated rendering. It offers an angular resolution of 50-57 PPD, 6 degrees of freedom (6DoF), and an integrated audio solution. As a pure PCVR headset, the Crystal Super does not include an XR2 processor or a battery. Priced starting at 13,599 RMB, it is scheduled to begin shipping in the fourth quarter of this year and is currently available for pre-order on the official website.

Crystal Light: High-Performance Premium PCVR at a Budget-Friendly Price

As a simplified version of the Pimax Crystal, the Crystal Light retains the core specifications of the original model while omitting features less critical for PCVR use cases. This achieves a perfect balance of high performance and affordability, with a starting price of 5,599 RMB, and it is also available for pre-order.

The Crystal Light delivers exceptional visual effects with a per-eye high-definition resolution of 2880 x 2880, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and high-performance glass aspherical lenses, offering users a highly competitive premium VR experience.

As a pure PCVR headset, the Crystal Light also lacks a battery, XR2 processor, or all-in-one functionality. This results in a 30% weight reduction, and when combined with its ergonomic design, ensures comfort even during extended wear. To further control costs, the Crystal Light does not support swappable lenses or eye tracking. Instead, it has upgraded its fixed foveated rendering technology, which operates independently of eye tracking yet still helps users overcome potential GPU performance limitations. This technical enhancement improves the Crystal Light's performance, providing users with a more stable and smooth virtual reality experience.
