Currently, the passthrough function on most standalone VR headsets relies on four external monochrome cameras. The PICO 4, however, not only features four ultra-wide-angle environmental tracking cameras but also incorporates a 16-megapixel RGB camera, making it the world's first standalone VR headset to support full-color passthrough.
Empowered by this Video See-Through (VST) visual solution, the real-world view within the VR headset becomes vividly rendered, enabling seamless integration between virtual content and the physical environment. This truly moves beyond monochrome visuals and unlocks infinite potential for Mixed Reality (MR) applications.
The adoption of Pancake optics is becoming a significant trend in recent VR hardware. In this regard, the PICO 4 utilizes dual 4K+ resolution displays combined with advanced Pancake folded optics. Its expansive 105-degree field of view (FOV) delivers sharper, more immersive visuals. While becoming significantly lighter and thinner, it also achieves a wider FOV and clearer picture quality. Data shows the PICO 4 headset weighs a mere 295 grams.
For interaction, compared to the Neo 3, the PICO 4 adds four infrared tracking sensors, enabling fast and precise 6DoF (six degrees of freedom) spatial positioning. With sub-millimeter positional accuracy and millisecond-level tracking speed, users experience highly responsive "point-and-interact" capabilities within the VR world. It also features a higher-spec IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) sensor, supporting bare-hand interaction.
The PICO 4 Pro features light gold high-gloss curved lenses and incorporates three additional high-dynamic sensors for eye tracking and facial tracking. These cutting-edge technologies unlock vast possibilities for diverse VR scenarios.
With the rise of home fitness, PICO has built a richer content ecosystem, including features like fitness plans. In addition to the four SLAM tracking cameras on the headset, PICO also announced a peripheral – a body tracker. Weighing only 22 grams, this tracker enables 3DoF spatial positioning for leg movement tracking.
Beyond the all-new design, comfortable fit, immersive audiovisuals, nuanced haptic feedback, and sub-millimeter 6DoF spatial positioning powered by robust hardware, the content lineup announced at the launch was equally impressive.
