Empowering Robots with "Intelligent Eyes"

China Securities Journal provided a deep insight into Sunny OIT's core competencies. The report highlighted that Sunny Optical Technology, the global optical leader, has significant deployments beyond smartphones, automobiles, and security sectors, venturing deeply into the robotics industry. Its subsidiary, Sunny OIT, a robotics vision system solution provider, exhibited a series of module products including binocular depth gesture recognition cameras and ToF depth cameras for robotic vacuums, alongside single-point infrared laser vibrometers.

These products meet robot requirements for obstacle avoidance, scene reconstruction, and path planning, offering measurement ranges from 0.2 meters to 8 meters with less than 1% error. "Equipping robots with intelligent 'eyes' enables deep learning. The greatest appeal of AI lies in deep learning, which requires data," stated Frank Xu of Sunny OIT during the interview.

Perspectives on Robotic Vision

The 21st Century Business Herald approached the topic from the perspective of the trending term "involution." The report quoted a Sunny OIT representative: "As market competition intensifies, to avoid involutionary competition, companies must also enhance their capabilities for technological advancement. The explosive growth of artificial intelligence urgently demands rapid improvements in computing power, placing higher requirements on optics."

Jiemian News pointed out that exhibitors at this summit also included Sunny OIT, a subsidiary of Sunny Optical Technology (02383.HK), which holds the global No.1 market share in mobile phone lenses. Frank Xu, Senior Marketing Director, told Jiemian reporters, "Sunny doesn't directly develop robots, but the optical industry we operate in can provide robots with intelligent eyes. This helps robots achieve more natural human-machine interaction to better serve human production and life, and facilitates better human-machine symbiosis."

Furthermore, the seasoned high-tech media outlet OFweek provided a highly professional and comprehensive report on Sunny OIT, focusing on its three core competencies: R&D, algorithms, and manufacturing.

The report also acknowledged Sunny OIT's market strength. Consistently focused on 3D vision systems, Sunny OIT currently commands a remarkable 60% market share in the vision module/component business. It was the world's first company to apply ToF modules for obstacle avoidance in robotic vacuums. "Applying 3D vision technology to more scenarios is the development direction of intelligent optics and Sunny OIT's goal for the coming years," the report stated.

Currently, the primary sectors underpinning Sunny Optical's business are automotive and smartphones. Among all industries, automotive ranks only behind real estate, while in the consumer electronics sector, smartphones represent the largest current industry. However, the next-generation products after smartphones could be wearable devices or AR glasses; it remains uncertain. Nevertheless, Sunny OIT holds a very high market share in these two potential markets, establishing an absolute leading position.

These two markets currently cannot rival the scale of the automotive and smartphone markets and are still in their development phase. However, in 5-10 years, these fields are expected to become massive markets, potentially serving as major business pillars for Sunny Optical. Sunny Optical's chosen path is intelligent optics – wherever "eyes" are needed, Sunny aims to have a presence.
